Support

The RMS Field Gateway v1.0 is a defined deployment platform.

Support is focused on ensuring stable RMS Gateway operation within the documented configuration.

What Is Supported

Support covers:

  • Initial deployment assistance

  • Credential and registration clarification

  • Network connectivity verification

  • Audio interface alignment guidance

  • RMS Gateway operational behavior

  • Internet outage behavior

  • Power recovery verification

The goal is predictable, stable gateway operation.

What Is Not Supported

The RMS Field Gateway v1.0 is not supported as:

  • A general-purpose Linux workstation

  • A development or experimentation platform

  • An HF multi-mode station

  • A CAT-controlled radio system

  • A custom software modification environment

While the underlying software is capable of additional modes and configurations, support is limited to documented VHF/UHF RMS Gateway deployments.

Configuration Responsibility

During setup, the operator enters:

  • Sysop credentials

  • Callsign and station information

  • RMS Gateway registration details

These remain under operator control.

Support does not include management of third-party credentials or external Winlink account changes.

Hardware Scope

Support assumes:

  • Raspberry Pi Zero 2W platform (as delivered)

  • Standard USB audio interfaces

  • Fixed-frequency VHF/UHF FM radios

  • Radio-specific audio/PTT interface cable

  • Internet via Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or hotspot

Non-standard hardware configurations may fall outside support scope.

Documentation First

Most common deployment questions are addressed in the Setup & Operations Manual, complete with troubleshooting guidance.

Support requests are typically resolved quickly when documentation steps have been followed.

Philosophy

A gateway should not require constant attention.

If properly deployed, it should:

  • Start automatically

  • Recover from power interruption

  • Reconnect after internet outages

  • Remain stable without intervention

Support exists to ensure that outcome.
